Crossroads Carnegie Art Center First Friday Art Walk exhibit
Join Crossroads Carnegie Art Center on First Friday, November 3, for the opening of “Language of the Land” by Hartini Gibson. The First Friday Reception starts at 5 p.m., Artist's Talk at 5:30. This exhibit is on display until October 28, 2023.
- Hartini Gibson’s bold use of color and composition tantalizes the eyes and draws the viewer into a dreamscape that is at once captivating and yet unattainable. Her landscapes tell a story filled with emotion, giving a voice to the earth through an ephemeral lens, evoking a depth of mystery and meaning.
Artist Statement from Hartini Gibson
I am an artist who paints stories that speak of time, place, and nature. My artwork is a contemporary fiction composed of fragments of thought, place, sight, myth, emotion, and dream. I am primarily a painter, painting large expressive, colorful, imaginary, abstract landscapes, in oil, acrylic, and mixed media. Nature is my muse and inspiration. Unspecific past, specific present, and undetermined future co-mingle in my work to form a recognizable story and moment that is both as specific and ungraspable as time itself.
I have purposely painted my work in a simple way akin to the glimpse of what one may see at first glance. I have exaggerated color, subject and composition to express the lingering emotion of what one may feel. I am trying to evoke a feeling of mystery and moment as specific, timeless, and elusive as the shape of a cloud, the feel of the wind, the smell of an approaching storm, and the change of light in the sky.
Crossroads is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the First Friday show opening continuing till 8 p.m. each month.
